U.S. Nickel Mintages (1866–Present)

The United States nickel has a long and fascinating history, beginning with the Shield nickel in 1866 and continuing through Liberty Head nickels, Buffalo nickels, and Jefferson nickels to the present day.

Below is a complete mintage chart covering the major nickel designs and year-by-year circulation mintages. Collectors often use mintage figures to identify key dates, low mintage issues, and scarcer coins that can be more difficult to locate in higher grades.

Tip: Use this page as a quick reference when searching rolls, dealer stock, estate collections, or albums for better dates and low mintage U.S. nickels.
